Yesterday, two Butternut squash, about 3" dia and 6 to 8" long. Peeled them deseeded and chooped up in about 1/4" chunks. Covered a pot with 20 onces of chicken stock, brought to a boiladding in a 1/2 table spoon of garlic powder, 2 taple spoons of real butter. testing the chunks for softness with a potato masher. Once soft enough the masher could do it's job I used the immersion blender to blend it smoother while adding. a1/2 cup of real cream. Let simmer just a tad longer then it was ready.

If you do not have a anti salt person in the family add a bit to taste. I add the salt and pepper in my bowl since Kare is a full anti.

OH was it ever sweet. how ever there was a tiny bit left over. Going to make a cup of rice and add to the left over soup for a meal.

Another use for Butternut squash.

Butternut Squash Layer Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting - this butternut squash recipe makes a surprising and outstanding dessert, your guests will never guess that it's made with squash
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup cooked, mashed butternut squash
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups cake flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup milk
1 cup walnuts, chopped
Cream Cheese Frosting:
3 (8 oz) packages cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, white sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each is added. Add squash, maple syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add in batches to to squash mixture, alternating with batches of milk, and mixing between each addition. Once all of the flour mixture and milk has been added, stir in the walnuts.

I have used this recipe for years, but half the spice. https://www.marthastewart.com/1151982/apple-butternut-squash-soup

Yes,@trail twister , the butternut squash cake would be good. have used it instead of pumpkin for pumpkin pie. I also make a chocolate beet cake, using beet puree . for both the cake and the pie people have no clue. And I make a sauerkraut pie, people think its coconut pie.

Here is one I have been tinkering with,..Adult palmetto spread.

Sharp cheddar cheese
palmetto peppers
whiskey
mayo

Shred cheddar, place on paper towels to dry.
Drain peppers and let dry on paper towels.

Once peppers and cheese are dry sprinkle with the whiskey just enough to get moist, to much and the next step will not work.
Mix in just enough mayo to pull it together into a spread resembling what you buy in the store.

A real snap to the old standard. Great on my home made bread.

I need a sharpening steel. Any good brand? I am looking for a diamond steel, for sharpening not honing. 12 inches or longer works.

its any old banana bread recipe you have, and use up the two ripe bananas and the one medium size sweet potato. there is no "recipe " per say for this, just good old 58 years of baking /cooking knowledge. I like to whip the bananas till smooth, same with the sweet potato then threw in the butter, eggs, sugar, flour, baking soda.
