A bit of trivia really.

Most people familiar with ELO will recognise this logo in its various forms which is on many of their albums and is always the centre-piece of their stage set.

But did you know it as actually based on this. It's a 1940s Wurlitzer jukebox illuminated wall speaker.

Here's a demo.

I've had this for the best part of forty years. It was given me by a supplier's rep. at one of my stores.
It's a reasonably accurate replica of a 1947 Wurlitzer 1015.
It's hung on the wall of my garage for most of its life. It has FM & Medium wave radio plus a cassette player. I think they still make them but with a CD player.

I only use it occasionally, alright..rarely, if I'm doing a job in the garage as I was yesterday.
I noticed the volume control was very scratchy, so I took it down, took the back off and gave the controls a go with switch cleaner. To its credit everything works including the lights.

I noticed it still had a cassette in it. I'd no Idea what it was as I haven't used the player in ages. So I turned it on and it still worked! It played a track from a Bangles album.
I remembered I liked that. I put it back on the wall, came indoors and had a go at it on my leccy piano.

Trivia,

On the original recording Susanna Hoffs, the lead singer makes a reasonable attempt at singing the final note which is a high "D."
In different TV appearances posted on YouTube over the years, she struggles to get it out and you can hardly hear it. At other times she chickens out and sings the lower "A" instead.

I've replaced a couple of records in one of my jukeboxes, as they are a bit too scratchy, same 45s, but from an eBay supplier I trust with the description of the quality. So many lie about how good they are, but will give you a refund if you complain, so many purchasers must not, so they can afford it.

I've ordered this as it reminds me of a great holiday in Majorca in the mid-eighties.
Described as "near mint" £2.99 plus postage.

Would you believe 881M hits?

I bought this 45rpm for one of my jukeboxes on eBay for £4.99 today.

I have got it on the album I bought when it was released. I've ELO's various contemporary concerts on a Humax recorder.

I think they actually improved with age.

Here's a cut and past of a post I made on a USA keyboard player's message board this morning.

This might interest some of the older Brit contributors.

I was going through some old music books last night and came across this, I hadn't heard it in decades, it was the only hit for Jimmy Young. (1921-2016) I say it was a hit, but we've no way of knowing how big as there were no record charts in the UK in 1951. I remembered the tune as my mother liked it. Being eleven, I wasn't that interested in music at the time

He was an old-style "balladeer."

Around 1960 he became a disc-jockey, a job he held with different broadcasters, until shortly before his death, but mostly with the BBC, where he was extremely popular with listeners,

It's a nice tune so I gave it a go this morning.
