Cor :) Sandstone churches :cool: We usually have limestone ones down here.

Interesting that the 11th C one has a blocked up doorway (note the Norman arches :cool:) I'm guessing it's the original South door into the Nave and that the tower was added later but they couldn't have one corner only supported by the door arch.

Stirling, Scotland. The monument is in memory of William Wallace who fought to regain much of Scotland from the English and was caught and executed by them in 1305.

This first image I took some years back as the weather was bad when I visited a few days ago.

An internet image of 14th century Stirling Castle. The original castle has been extended over the years and is now a mixture of buildings from different eras.

A statue of Robert the Bruce (Robert De Brus) standing outside the main gate. When he became king of Scotland he took up the fight to regain Scotland from the English after William Wallace's death and succeeded. Scotland has retained it's independence since.

Did you notice the arrow slits in the tower too @zigs ?
