Well there has been a light frost outside the city a few nights ago. My garden is slowly starting to fade, it had a cold early June so everything was late this year. Thought I better catch some pictures this evening while I was thinking about it.

I noticed today that our winter season plants have started to look like they would if they were spring plants in early March.

Today was the last opportunity this week I had to do a bit of painting of the woodwork in the garden, as rain is expected tomorrow.
So I painted the tea-house and the pergola rail to the side of the former koi pool, now our "rose patio."
I didn't paint the top of the pergola as there's too much wisteria foliage in the way. I've also left the big pergola on the back of the house for the same reason. They will have to wait for a dry day in November.
None of it really needed doing, but another coat always brings back the shine. I'm always in favour of doing this re-paint before it needs doing, as if it did, some rot might have already set in.

Our garden never looks bad even like today when the weather's wet and the grass needs cutting.
Our sambucus is still hanging on though the berries have fallen.
The Sorbus at the bottom of the garden, is at its best at this time of the year, the blossom in the Spring isn't that impressive. But now as the leaves are turning and there's the usual crop of berries, it looks quite attractive.
Some of the berries have already fallen.
I'll give a couple of branches a trim in a few weeks just to balance it up a bit.
This minosa in a big tub on the patio we've had for years. It's looking very healthy
There's plenty of blossom to come in the new year.
The "lollypop" acer in the front garden is loking very sorry for itself at the moment, more like a porcupine with all the uneven growth and plenty of lesves yet to be shed.. It'll get a trim in a few weeks. I'll take up to 12" off it all the way round to even it up and stop it growing any further. The canopy would be twice the size if I didn't do this every year.
The viburnums, acers and rhodos are all doing well. They form an effective screen from the road for our bay window, butt don't help much with the lawn as they restrict it's light.

The winter storm rolled out overnight. We didn't end up with as much snow as we might have, which I'm pretty happy about.
