I did all I wanted to do this morning and had finished by lunchtime.
It had an amusing moment.
A family of Hong-Kong Chinese, a husband and wife and three kids, two little girls around five or six and a boy a year or so older, have moved in next door.

They came round to introduce themselves last week and one of the little girls handed my wife a small plant in a china pot. They are very friendly and oh so polite.

Half their garden is paved, so the three kids play on it. All three sometimes play football. But never for more than an hour.
They have a little goal they use. They were playing this morning, whilst I was working, all chattering away in Chinese. But there's obviously, some situations in football, where there isn't a phrase in Chinese for it. As I heard one of the little girls call out, about something about which she obviously wasn't happy, "Oh! Come on!"

Spring has certainly arrived.
The first bluebell.

They've spread around our garden for over fifty years.

Potato plants are looking good. I finally learned Blue Bird family is in the center bird house this year shown in the picture. Last year Blue Bird family was in the left house, year before that Blue Bird family was in the right house. Many birds are chirping very loud today. We are having very high wind sky is making a very loud roar sound like a freight train. Tornados, rain, hail, forecast tonight. I bought 6 tomato plants to be planted outside after tornadoes are gone.

Another rained out weekend. Some weeds starting to pop back up, I'll rake them out during the week sometime.

Seedlings are coming along nicely, corn, pickles, tomatoes cabbage and basil all showing life. Still waiting on peppers and herbs.

Finally dry enough to get a couple rows of potatoes in the ground!!
This area of my land got flooded really badly in the 2022 floods and has been planted with clover and rye along with manure added every fall.
Looks ready to grow vegetables again!!

I sowed a short row of carrots today, Gary
Hoed quite an area and hoed in manure I had spread over it, watered lots, it's all very dry, still April tomorrow, "April brings the sweet Spring showers, going on for hours and hours." as Flanders and Swan say.
Sorted through my tomato seedlings, I tend to pot up everything, some die, some look miserable, and a few are quite nice. Out of about fifteen to twenty from each seed planting I will keep the best three for myself, give away the next best five or six and compost the rest. That will give me twelve or fifteen plants, plenty for the two of us. I used the compost from those I junked to fill a few slightly larger pots and potted up some lettuce seedlings. The first ones I did a while ago are coming on we will soon be eating them. I prepared a couple of buckets for tomato plants, empty out last year's stuff, put back the wood, and maybe a bit more, then fill with afresh; compost, manure, fish blood and bone, bit of Epsom salt, and a tad of wood ash, well mixed. Last year's earth goes into the raised beds, or gets improved a bit and used to top up the daffodil tubs and troughs. I dead headed all the Jet Fire daffodils today, the early iris are all gone already, but there are still plenty of other daffs about in bud, and soon there will be lilies. Chopped wood, swept up etc. An active sunny day and the leg is feeling good still.

Lightning, wind, rain, 2am, I was setting in the screen porch in a rocking chair in total darkness except for lightning flashes listening to the extremely loud storm. Have you ever noticed the only thing that blows away in 60 mph wind is anything about ground. Nothing below ground blows away. For 2 hours it sounded like the house was going to blow away. This morning 7am it is still raining, potato & onion plants look good. Garden needed this rain. We still have 7 days of more rain in the forecast. I hope softer soil makes carrots easier to pull up. Why does TV News love the words, at least? At least 2 tornados, at least 2 lightning strikes, at least 2 trees down.

Last fall I built a seed stratification box with random supplies I had around the house. I've gotten tired of growing native plant seeds indoors every year and never have as much success as I'd like anyway, so it was time to do something different.

I peeked in it today and some seedlings are appearing! If successful, I will be able to grow SO many more native plants each year!
