Depends on where you are. The Pacific islanders give us good coconut fiber, both as mulch and seed raising mix.

I dunno. Coir has its uses, but it dries out fast and doesn't provide any nitrition early in its decomposition process. I like it for adding some structure to the soil for the roots to grip onto. I don't use it as a sprouting medium. I like peat moss though.

Getting the best results is all about control and Coco Coir gives you just that.

COCO COIR GIVES MORE ROOM AND AIR FOR THE ROOT SYSTEM:

Coco Coir offers a great mix of water retention, reliable drainage and aeration. It gives the roots plenty of room, allowing for optimum air exposure. Pure coco gives plants the maximum space for roots as there is nothing that will hinder the path of their growth.

COCO COIR HAS A PH-NEUTRAL VALUE:

Good Coco Coir has a neutral pH ran ...........etc

😮😲 Oh look, the link above folks gives us all we need to know on this subject. :giggle:

I've been mixing my own soil using Peat Moss.

After so long just use what I've mixed after nutrients have been used. Put fresh nutrients in it and maybe some Perlite, mix it in and call it good.

Some say mix Microbs in. If you do it right there is no room for more Microbs.

I do not sterilize my soil. If I did yes it would kill weeds but it kills everything else in the soil.

So yes something might sprout in it but it is very easy to pull.

My plants like this very much.
