Well maybe down here we sell a different type than you find up there. Which is not to be use for anything else but carving. To me I would rather get the "right pumpkin" to spend my time with, either for baking or soup so the product comes out well than one that the product will not come out well. So again for the carved type, it still does not go to waste, the animals of the woods can have at it.
Yep, thanks for confirming what I have been saying. As I am here in the USA this is what our pumpkins are like.

I usually just roast the pumpkin seeds with a bit of salt in the oven. They smelled terrific in the house, and they don't last long with my kids.

Coat your seeds in melted butter and salt and stick them in the oven to roast. They are such a wonderful snack in the fall and really make you feel like you are in the season. I am going to buy a couple of sugar pumpkins and boil down the meat and roast the seeds, perfect way to use all parts of the gourd.

I'll definitely be giving roasted pumpkins seeds a try. They'll be a healthy alternative from the potato crisps I normally eat.
I'd be prepared to bet you'll eat far more than you would of potato crisps! They are delicious. I usually throw in some sunflower seeds at the same time. They had a great flavour too.

You can bake the pumpkin seeds in the oven with a little salt. They make a great snack and they are very high in fiber. You can actually buy pumpkin seeds in the store. Definitely don't throw them out. I've never tried replanting them, but I can't hurt to try.

Interesting thread, I will have to get a pumpkin before they are out of season to try some of these ideas. Other than carving it I have never known what to do with the pumpkin.

My favorite way to eat pumpkin seeds is roasted with garlic. Fresh garlic and pumpkin seeds are the best! I also like to put them into different bread loaves and on top of cereal. :)
