What are some good uses for pumpkin seeds? Its Halloween today in the Uk and as a result I've been carving pumpkins. It seems such a shame to waste all the seeds so I've separated them.

Is there a way they can be planted for harvest next year?

They are great roasted and there are a lot of different recipes online for doing so. I f you want to plant them next year just clean and dry them and put them in a paper envelope

I agree with the roasting. You can use a dry pan for roasting those pumpkin seeds but have it dried first. It's better if you wash the seeds and dry it before roasting in the pan. You can put a dash of salt for flavoring. And for planting purposes, putting inside an envelope is a good idea although you can place it inside a plastic bin if they are a lot.

Pumpkin seeds cooked and shelled make a fine addition to Breakfast cereal. The seeds are cooked in a double boiler to inhibit burning about one hour, separated from the substrate and put through a Champion Juicer which separates the desired pith from the outer shell. The remainder of the pumpkin will be made into juice.

I'll definitely be giving roasted pumpkins seeds a try. They'll be a healthy alternative from the potato crisps I normally eat.

My seeds have come from carving pumpkins. Would they still be considered edible?

I am only saddened that I can't get more seeds from the pumpkins used by people for carving. Most people throw them out. I don't like just roasting them because the outside shell is over whelming. I only use one or two to make juice, which is excellent. And that is all the seeds that I get.

One 20 pound pumpkin was purchased locally, many pumpkins are grown in the area, and processed into 18 liters of juice. Each liter contains one pound of pumpkin.Process was to remove seeds, which were processed separately into a paste, cut into small pieces, cover with water, and cooked until soft about 20 minutes, then blend into a homogeneous slurry. The slurry was put through a food mill 2mm mesh to strain. The strained juice was placed in liter jars and pressure canned at 15 PSI for 15 minutes. There is very Little residue from the process, and straining is probably not necessary.

There is no such thing as a carving pumpkin. A pumpkin is a pumpkin. It is a wonderful vegetable and should be utilized more. There is a lot of food in a pumpkin.

Well maybe down here we sell a different type than you find up there. Which is not to be use for anything else but carving. To me I would rather get the "right pumpkin" to spend my time with, either for baking or soup so the product comes out well than one that the product will not come out well. So again for the carved type, it still does not go to waste, the animals of the woods can have at it.

Much mis-information in her article. I also know one can interchange any of the squashes instead of pumpkin and it is impossible to detect much difference. I juice pumpkin every year and find it one of my favorite juices. Any pumpkin around 25 pounds or smaller is just fine. I utilize the skin and all. Most people never use a pumpkin unless it is a pie or a carved face. They are grown by the thousands in my area.

I never tried utilizing any pumpkin over about 25 pounds for food, but again most people don't use a large one even for carving. Also the texture and flavour of even the small ones doesn't differ much form the larger.

and another article. In this one, the bottom line is it does not taste as good as the others. My comment is I am looking for a good product to use to make something from, and I will not chose the carved type pumpkin, I will use other types. And if I have a carved pumpkin, it will go out to the animals.

It is all about choice, and the few articles here to share with all.
