Some memories from back then.
We did a lot of rental TVs.
A popular model was an Ultra 75.
This frequently developed a fault, in that the picture would start to roll.
A quick fix was to replace the PCL82 valve, (tube).
My engineer was of a similar age as was I. Sometimes, when called out to a set where the customer had reported this fault. He'd arrive at the house and if the renter was a bit aloof, he'd take the back off the set, replace the valve and put the back back on, in just a minute or so. He'd then make as if to leave, so would pretend to be a bit impatient, when they asked him to check it out. Of course when he turned it on, the set was fine.
One customer who had the same set with same problem, was a little old lady. when he'd replaced the valve and turned on the set, she was very happy that the rolling had stopped. But he noticed it had a partial frame collapse, so he adjusted the height control which fixed that too. She hadn't been bothered about that, as she thought all the programmes were now in that new "Cinemascope."
