Keep us updated on it, if you don't mind. Also a taste test too.
I plan to cut it tonight. This one was not totally ripe. We had so much rain saturday I didn't want it to split. I also had to step on the vines to get to it and didnt want to step on them agian so I picked it. Very close to ripe but would if been better a couple days more. I will get pictures of the vines and the cut melon.

If it taste good it will be a yearly thing. Grows very well for me.

Well that's kind of what I was wondering, a hybrid may be more disease resistant but might taste like one of those coming from the Walmart....blah.

Taste was OK but it wasn't totally ripe. Still a bit to crunchy for me. I will have to see what a ripe one taste like. So far seems promising plenty to go around and easy to grow.

To be continued.

Looks like this year my canteloupes are growing better than the watermelons for the first time.

Since the hybrid giant gets pretty big the weight smashes the bottom when close to ripe. Threw out 2 big ones. Need to keep an eye out for these. I might have to stand them upright so it sits on the blossom side. These for me are a winner. Taste great but needs to be fully ripe. Right before the bottom blows out.

Sugar cubes are small but gives plenty and taste good.

Harvested the last of the peppers and jicama.

First time growing jica and its a winnner. Long growing season so I had to start them supper early. Golf ball size when I planted them outside. All the leaves dried out but the bulb survived and regrew.

Going to try and get the rest of the tomatillos and tomatoes before the first freeze.

Harvested everything remaining of usable size yesterday. Mostly peppers - LOTS of peppers. Around freezing last night and going down to 23F tonight. Rather a sudden descent from 50's to 20's!! Now got to figure out what else to do with more peppers. Hate wasting stuff and not many neighbors like 'em.

First fall broccoli harvested today with several weeks' worth more on the way. This survived several days of 100deg F + temps earlier so will be interesting to see how it tastes.

Today I harvested enough Red Norland potatoes & Roma beans for dinner tonight and sweet carman peppers too. TV claims 25°f weather is coming Wed. Roma beans are better than any green beans you can buy in the grocery store.
