Guess what, everyone? I am now working in Outside Lawn and Garden at Lowe's! Had my first shift yesterday getting acquainted with the garden center - that is getting better acquainted, lol. I am there shopping so often that some of the employees were starting to get to know me by name and others knew my face.

It was a very active day and I'm looking forward to this new adventure!

I'm happy for you! I bet that Lowe's will have better plants than the others :D

Thanks! I was talking to the nursery specialist about plants yesterday. He said the selections vary at the different locations for different reasons, popularity being among them. My store is just across the parish line so I have to keep reminding myself that technically we are in Jefferson and not Orleans, even though it's literally yards away.

There are very slight differences in temperature and climate in the areas where the stores are located, and some neighborhoods are more suburban, so those two things may have something to do with it as well.

Congratulations on your new job! Working at Lowe's in that department will suit you well as you have lots to offer with your knowledge about garden plants and all. I love stalking Lowe's for their collection of Spring flowers! Theirs are always looking more healthy than at Home Depot.

That is awesome that you got a job at Lowes. I absolutely love walking through the garden center of that place and just admiring all of the vegetation, even if I don't have money to spend on plants. Being in the south, I bet you have a fun assortment of plants down there that would not even grow up in my neck of the woods. Have fun, it sounds like a fantastic place to work!

Congratulations on your new job. I know you will feel like you are not really working because you are someplace you enjoy being.

Ha! Yesterday I moved about 100 bales of pine straw! Today I dragged a very long hose around the whole garden center to water the plants. My whole body aches! But thanks; I did enjoy chatting with people about their gardens, though.

Thanks! So far so good. We are getting some spring flowers in on Friday, so give your local store a call in the mid-morning.

Thank you!. When you stroll, be sure to check out the clearance rack. You can garden even on a budget with plants as low as $1, $3, and $5! We are lucky that it's warmer, and I'm discovering varieties of plants I didn't know existed.

Aw, thank you! That's really kind of you to say. It's going to be a little rough for a while going in at 5:30 in the morning (beginning next week), but I'll be around to help people plan their gardens when it's most busy, which will be nerve-wracking if it's super busy, but still fun since I get to talk about plants :)

Congratulations, and to think it's something that you know about and obviously enjoy doing. It just makes work a little more enjoyable.

Finally, right? LOL It's seasonal. but I am hoping to stay on even just part-time in the fall. I chatted with some beginner and amateur gardeners today and was able to give them some ideas for things they weren't aware of. It's nice to be able to do something that will actually mean something.

Ha, haI I sure hope so, Lori. There are quite a few flowering shrubs I have never seen before, so I will have lots to learn about, but we both know it's just an excuse for me to spend more time Googling garden topic :)

Funny you mention that - I told a few friends when I applied and they had the same reaction. I try to pass on what I can to the less experienced with plants. There's another lady there who actually studied horticulture when she was younger. Before work today I actually had a chat with someone at a different nursery and we were comparing notes about herbs. I may look into the master gardener class down the road.

Thanks!

Excellent news! Good luck on your new venture. Maybe with a little luck, and being in the right place rubbing elbows with the plant suppliers will land you something more permanent. In the meantime enjoy the experience!

That would be great, Licenter. There's room for career growth with Lowe's, but I might consider a partnership type gig like merchandiser. For now I am content with where I am, and just doing my best to learn what I can. There are some cool flowering shrubs I need to get to know better. Not to mention figuring out the whole square foot thing so I can do the math in my head faster.
