Hi Corzhens...both of the plants in your photo are Marigolds. I do not see a Cosmos in site:) I believe many people grow Marigolds in or near their vegetables as a bug deterrent. I have no idea how effective this is, but they are very pretty flowers when they are not drown. So you might want to save what you can of them .:)

If you save the seeds from the Marigolds @Corzhens you can use those to grow more, as they should grow true to the parent plant. :)

The pot where the marigold was planted remains there. And it is a surprise that a new marigold had grown, maybe from the seeds of the flowers of the old plant. The seedling is now about 5 inches high and I had seen this morning that it has a bud. Maybe I have to take a picture of that first flower that would bloom in a few days from now.
