What is this? Why, a plant handpicked for a monarch, of course.

The King Alfred Daffodil (Narcissus x 'King Alfred') was named after Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, who ruled in the late 9th Century. The King Alfred Daffodil was bred by John Kendall in the late 19th Century. This is a famous daffodil cultivar, but it is no longer common in general cultivation, being found only in special collections and in in some old gardens. However, several similar cultivars, such as Narcissus x 'Dutch Master', are still commonly labelled and sold as such.
