Yes, this culture should spread to more mindsets!! I've happily gifted plants and seeds but not done it on occasions where I go to gatherings to wish the invitees. I like this idea. There was an occasion where the host presented Holy Basil plant saplings to all the invitees. The Basil plant is worshipped in our Hindu culture and is part of every home, a pot kept outside the main door. This is just one example.
