Two members is insufficient to reinstate, IMO.

Perhaps if the owner of the site would offer prizes such as coffee cups or gardening hand tools or seed gift cards or gloves or you name it, it might offer more of an incentive.

Also, perhaps this is the wrong time of the year to be approaching this. Gardening is the last thing on a lot of gardeners minds during the middle of winter.

As the Polar Vortex whirls around outside today, I'm reading and ordering seeds from catalogs and online.

And I am planting my herb seeds today. I bought all my seeds last month. But we are avid long term gardeners. Most of the members on this site are not. Most have 2 or 3 tomato plants and maybe a pepper or two. I think that most of the new member sign ups fit this category. I would like to encourage these folks any way possible. And you gotta admit that a little prize goes further than 30 day bragging rights.

I'll admit that a free pack of "in season" seeds of whatever variety shipped to my house, if I won, would motivate me and promote gardening and this forum too. That is a fantastic ideal. What would that cost per month? 5$? Seems pretty cheap.

Brainstorming...maybe comps should emphasize gardening not photography. Such as "Best Tomato", "largest onion", "best pepper" ...that would interest me more than photo. After all, it is a gardening forum. :) and maybe that would encourage new members to participate.

I like the idea of prize incentives. Maybe a seed company would entertain sponsoring the comps...and the prizes...especially for best in class for their products.

I hope no one minds me giving my two cents, not that its worth much. Only problem I see with those as photo of the month is many members like myself would only get a few months a year at most to participate because of short grow seasons. Also a lot of members seem to have flower gardens, or house plants. If all members are to be given the option to participate I think just having the choice for them to submit a pic of anything plant related they grow would give the option for every member to participate.

A prize incentive would be great, even coupons from a sponsoring seed company. That would save the forum owner the price of snail mail shipping to other countries. Could probably even get sponsors for gardening items at discount using a code on the sponsored site.

I agree basically @pepper as long as the emphasis is on gardening and NOT photography. Again, it's a gardening forum not photography.

Prize incentives...I'm working on that.

I am not sure what you mean by photography? Seriously not being a smart ass but if its a picture of a plant, fruit, veggie, flower etc it doesn't matter if its taken with a cheap cell phone or a Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR.. it is what's in the pic that matters. It's really up to each member voting to decide what the reason is they vote for a particular picture, but if its all pictures of plants then they don't have much to decide on unless the pic is so bad its barely recognizable lol, but even then it should really be the choice of each voter what they prefer.

The idea is to entertain members and get them involved, posting and participating.. the more of that the more $$ the adds pay, the more $$ the forum makes and the less likely it changes hands again. I am not speaking for the owner or anyone but that is the general idea I assume.

I'm not sure if I'm a member or not, but the idea of a photo a month to vote on sounds like fun. If I'm a member, I would occasionally post a photo, and would certainly vote.
How do I find out if I signed up to be a member? My memory isn't as good as it used to be, lol. 😊

I think it would be a mistake to limit photos to such uninspiring categories. Artistic gardens need not apply, is that the idea? Why don't you just let people submit any photo that has a plant/plants as its main subject?
