Bump..........if you are a member here and interested in us reinstating the Photo of the Month contest, please make your feelings known on this thread.
Perhaps if the owner of the site would offer prizes such as coffee cups or gardening hand tools or seed gift cards or gloves or you name it, it might offer more of an incentive.Bump..........if you are a member here and interested in us reinstating the Photo of the Month contest, please make your feelings known on this thread.
Two members is insufficient to reinstate, IMO.
As the Polar Vortex whirls around outside today, I'm reading and ordering seeds from catalogs and online.... Gardening is the last thing on a lot of gardeners minds during the middle of winter.
And I am planting my herb seeds today. I bought all my seeds last month. But we are avid long term gardeners. Most of the members on this site are not. Most have 2 or 3 tomato plants and maybe a pepper or two. I think that most of the new member sign ups fit this category. I would like to encourage these folks any way possible. And you gotta admit that a little prize goes further than 30 day bragging rights. As the Polar Vortex whirls around outside today, I'm reading and ordering seeds from catalogs and online.

Brainstorming...maybe comps should emphasize gardening not photography. Such as "Best Tomato", "largest onion", "best pepper" ...that would interest me more than photo. After all, it is a gardening forum. and maybe that would encourage new members to participate.
I like the idea of prize incentives. Maybe a seed company would entertain sponsoring the comps...and the prizes...especially for best in class for their products.
I agree basically @pepper as long as the emphasis is on gardening and NOT photography. Again, it's a gardening forum not photography.
Prize incentives...I'm working on that.
I'm not sure if I'm a member or not, but the idea of a photo a month to vote on sounds like fun. If I'm a member, I would occasionally post a photo, and would certainly vote.Bump..........if you are a member here and interested in us reinstating the Photo of the Month contest, please make your feelings known on this thread.
I think it would be a mistake to limit photos to such uninspiring categories. Artistic gardens need not apply, is that the idea? Why don't you just let people submit any photo that has a plant/plants as its main subject?Brainstorming...maybe comps should emphasize gardening not photography.
