My wife ordered some rhubarb (or maybe rhubarb pie) for us for the holidays. It is an exotic food this far south.I am UK here, it's very popular.
Only cover rhubarb to force it, when the stalks have grown take the cover off can't force the same plant everytime. It doesn't get eaten by slugs and snails.• Rhubarb: can be covered in darkness and harvested, but also likes a lot of sun. Slugs/Snails are its predator.
Sorry to knock your optimism DirtMechanic but to me that looks more like a bolognese sauce than rhubarb.

What you see here is the slow degradation of the patch as the animals devour it.
