I do usually wear gloves as have a lot of nettles. But was on my knees and was only one little sprig and couldn't be bothered to get my gloves so all my fault lol
Don't they say nettles mean good soil? Or just old husbands tale?
Luckily the horses seem to like them so if I pull any out now I chuck em over the fence so they can have a treat :)

How to encourage strawberries / blueberry to fruit in gay abandon???

I don't want another dismal fruiting years for the two, especially I have some lovely new strawberry varieties bought for 50p.. Can't wait shopping for plants when son's home.

Hopefully both new rads will be on today. One is done. Job bit slower as having new wall paper on the wall so he had to do that before hanging the new rads. They are the coloumn types so you can see the wall through them.
Re blueberrys here are the holes he dug me for mine that have been in pots since last year! I planted them yesterday. All I know is they need acidic soil and a friend only yesterday advised to mulch with pine needles. My neighbours have the biggest pine trees so plenty to mulch with :)

My plan is to plant a black currant and raspberry and fig (from my stash) so it will be like a forageing bed :)

Forgot to say the blueberrys are standard blueberry, one that tastes of honey and a pink one!

Oh, BM, you're so lucky - a good supply of nutrients . I saw a Christmas tree outside an estate agent this year, just as last year. Last year, I took a pair of scissors up the road to trim all the leaves. Didn't do it this year. But every time I passed by, I had the impulse to drag the tree (without root) down to my house), but no.. After that, it disappeared .. Don't know to where!

May be a good idea to incorporate bonemeal into the ericaceous compost.

Logan: Thank you for reminding me. I'm going to repot my thornless blackberry and the other?? into much bigger pots and let them do their job .. Think about it, will the blackbirds get there before me? LOL!

Morning all!

And what a beautiful one it is too

BM, hope your pain soon eases, it certainly lingers on well after the event!!

Off to buy a few more bags of compost today......where does it go!!

Went to put fresh flowers on my Mum's grave for Mothers Day and noticed that vine weevil had infested the planters :(
Loaded the planters into the car and brought home, emptied them out and now the birds are enjoying their treat:) There were soooo many grubs ...! Have taken lots of cuttings and discarded the main plants. So now I have to think about redoing them.

Not sure what else is planned...lots of seeds still to sow, I have lots
on the go already......why oh why can't I resist. always end up with far too many:D Is it too late for sweet peas ?

alp I love the way you take brilliant close-up pics of your flowers,. I tried doing the same yesterday.......mine were rubbish:(, have you got a posh camera?

Pleased to see that all my Snake Heads are budding up nicely, my first year of growing them. They are slower that yours though alp, not sure why but should fully open this week.....I hope.

Have a stinking headache today ( and yesterday), at least I can get away wearing sunglasses today!

Have a lovely Sunday x

Logan,
Berry's a fine looking dog.

Feeding Mr. and Mrs. Woodpecker this morning. They weren't fighting today. The Mrs. fed from my hand and Mr. kept his distance from her and ate at the table. Glad they worked it out.View attachment 17972 View attachment 17973 View attachment 17974
Hi Johnny, nice to hear from you. Thanks yes he is.It's been very quiet this afternoon. The Woodpeckers are adorable, thought they were bigger. They've probably paired up.:)
