Food dryer, can't use it yet though as it draws too much power and trips the inverter

Can stick it in the sun though for the time being. The flies were getting in my home made one, as much as I like sun dried tomatoes, I don't like them with fly poo on them :(
I really like your new toy Zigs. It's a great idea. Often we have bananas which don't get eaten and then are a bit soft for anything other than banana cake, compost or making Banana Plant Soup. Would that be too late to dry them do you know?

I am so jealous! I've always wanted to play around with a food dehydrator. There are so many awesome possibilities.

We've just bought a second-hand dehydrator (thank you Facebook local groups!) and so far I've dried tomatoes and mushrooms, both of which were very successful. The tomatoes I grew myself and the mushrooms came for pennies from a local market, so I was doubly fortunate. Having seen television programme where an entire banquet of raw food was prepared I tried drying sliced courgette, but don't think I left them in long enough. Perhaps I'll try the car drying trick and also see if drying them faster works better.

Have you tried vegetable crisps of any kind?

I've had vegetable crisps from a dehydrator many times and they're very tasty. I also love dried banana and mango, makes for a very tasty snack that you don't feel guilty about!

My sister in law had this kind of food dryer and every time me and my husband go to their house sometimes we helped her peel and slice the sweet potatoes, apples and peaches that she usually loves to dried in her food dryer. And she repacked them in plastic pack for their healthy snacks at home. And when we go home we had many take home of this dried foods.
