At first I thought the were growing in the tree but, when I got closer, it looks like a vine grew up the tree. It was still hard to see because the remaining fruit were tucked into the branches pretty well. I'm unwilling to taste it as it's coated in dirt on the inside but I agree that it's a cucumber. Weird.

What probably happened was that a mockingbird dropped a seed there and it sprouted and the vine just grew up the tree. Those fruits are really to big to eat and they will be bitter. If you can pick up one that is yellow its seeds will be viable. All you have to do is let the fruit dry out completely and plant the seeds this spring. From the way the fruit looks (short and blocky) it is a pickling type cucumber, delicious when young. It should grow quite well on your fence

Hi again Asia, sorry for the late reply but I've been on holidays.
That is me next to Rafflesia arnoldii in Sumatra; I lived in Indonesia for almost 15 years and spent a lot of it collecting the seeds of strange plants. I even discovered a few new ones although not a Rafflesia. I specialised in Amorphophallus, gingers and Nepenthes (carnivorous vines).

I agree with the general consensus that your fruit looks like a cuc. It also looks like you have a citrus growing in there too, or is the main tree a citrus of some kind? The orangey looking thing in the mid-right of the top image. It would be huge for a citrus tree but the leaves don't look totally unlike citrus leaves, are they shiny? Break a leaf off and smell it as it will smell like citrus if that's what it is.

The main tree is a lemon tree. At first, I thought there were two trees and that the cucumber was a weird fruit growing on the second tree. As it turns out, it's just one giant lemon tree with a vine growing up it. Those are some fat cucumbers.

Well, I can't see the base so it's possible it's two growing close together.

Even so, that or those trees are huge. What is you estimation as to how tall they are? Your fence is 8 feet.

Looks like one to me.

In fact - as lemon trees actually grow way taller than many think - although I much prefer to keep mine at around 6 to 8 ft in order to make harvesting easier - its not at all unusual to see lemon trees as tall as 15 – 25 ft and sometimes much more - which is especially so - not far from where I am.
