All double and upward flowers are sterile: they have the extra flower petals instead of sexual organs.

I have collected seeds from some seemingly double dahlia (Mambo) and they germinated.

So if I have any other "double" dahlias, I will trial them.

I would think Mambo is a double. In fact, those seeds were the first ones I collected 2 years ago. I collected and sown the seeds and they germinated. Think it depends what a double is in the realm of dahlias!
