I originally thought go with the stone....then I said wait...do the potatoes....then I saw the walkway. I have to say the great thing about here is how much food for thought you get. Bottom line...agree, get rid of the grass. Beyond that, I am now thinking either the stones or the walkway could be made to fit with your existing theme.

try the stone cobbling and make a pathway... I did this myself this summer, I replaced the woodchips, and you can still have a small flower bed here and there. The stones can be dug in and you can make cobbled steps too on steep slopes!
