Although I'm not sure what that would be - I do think that - as we get such a heavy covering of red Sahara sand every year - it may be part of the reason why we have such red sandy soil here and explain why they often like to use it as mortar when building houses or repairing roofs o_O

I got some of the ash that came out of that Icelandic Volcano a few years back :)

Got covered in the stuff, sky turned dark for the afternoon

scotkat - High up in a remote part of the Mediterranean mountains.

Wow - pretty impressive zigs that's quite some photograph - however I have to say - that I would much rather have the occasional covering of volcanic ash than the yearly Sahara Sandstorms that we have here - especially as it takes so long to get everything clean again - once they've abated :(

 nearly forgot - when you said that you got some of the ashes - do you mean that you kept them ? :D

If we mixed your sands and my volcanic dust with some lime, we'd have a pretty useful mortar :)

Only kept the microscope slide of it :D Rest is in the soil now.

Well we would - but only if we could rely on your volcanic dust being in regular supply - rather than sporadically :D

Well I hope for everyone's sake it doesn't happen again zigs

Particularly as I remember what it did here the last time - as not only were all our major airports totally congested with stranded holiday makers wanting to return home - it also had a major financial impact on the tourist industry too - which wasn't at all good for those who relied entirely on income generated from tourism.

No ash coming out of this one :)

Didn't stop me dreaming I was by the crater, then scrambling across rocks to try and get to a plane to fly to Sweden

Woke up when I thought about pyroclastic flows:eek::D

:D I was ok when I woke up, pretty quickly realised it was the wrong type of volcano for a pyroclastic flow :)
