Medlars all the way :) I love them and I'm so fed up I have to scrump them!

Aaaah, what's a 'Medlar' and how do you scrump them?
My guess is a type of apple and scrump is making scrumpy?
If so then I'm very close to voting with you (love cider) but I also love bananas, although strictly a herb it's a fruit I'd really like to grow at home.
I also like mangosteen although eating a kilo or so will keep you 'busy' for a while after.

Cheers, Troy

Hi Troy just to answer you on the word Scrump.......... its an old English word which means steal fruit from an orchard or garden! although I do tend to ask first ;).

when I was a young lad we boys would sometimes go off scrumping chesnuts & apples.

As for Medlars, just look them up & hunt a tree down near you & Scrump some for your self ..............you may like them(y)

Oh wow would I love to be able to walk out my back door and have a field of Honeycrisp apples! I am very picky as to what apples I eat, and honeycrisp are my favorite. They are hard to find certain times of the year here in Indiana, but having my own orchard would be a dream!

I also love mango especially our apple mango. Unfortunately it was felled by the typhoon in 2014 so we had to cut down all the big branches in order to prop it up. It's still alive and fortunately has some fruits. Last year it gave us 4 good fruits. Particularly the green mango, it is so nice to eat with the shrimp paste. It can be my meal when I'm on a diet or a snack maybe. And when it turns yellow and become ripe, it can be a healthy dessert.

If I lived in an area where they would thrive, I would grow several trees full of the sweetest oranges on the planet. I would also love to grow those tiny little oranges/tangerines known as Halos because my hubby and I could eat them all day long. Makes my mouth water just thinking about them! lol

@amelia88 You got that right; I am a mango lover. I would grow mango trees if I had the chance. The best thing about my life now is that I just moved to Dubai and there is mango in the market all year round; imported. It is so good to know when I have a craving for the fruit, I can always take a walk and get some.

I would choose a golden apple tree. Golden apple is a tropical fruit which bears during the cooler months - November through to January. I just love golden apples, but have not tasted a golden apple in a long time. My neighbours used to have a golden apple tree, but eventually cut it down as they were not fond of golden apples, and figured it was taking up space in their yard. It is a tree which grows very large. I was sorry they cut it down since they used to share some of the apples with us when the tree bore.

See what golden apples look like in the photo below. The seed is very prickly, so one has to be careful when eating them, especially when it gets near to the seed. They are an elongated type of fruit which is a different shape to other types of apples grown elsewhere. When ripe, they are a kind of bright golden yellow.

I would choose avocado. I know it is usually classified as a nut but the devil is in the details. They have low agronomic requirements and few pests and diseases besides being prolific. The fruit is very nutritious and versatile and goes with many dishes including bread.

When I lived in California my yard had 9 fruit trees, plums, peaches, kiwi and a few more. It was great being able to go out to the yard and pluck what I wanted to eat from the trees. The peaches were my favorite, if I could grow just one it would be the peach tree.

I'm jealous!! I rarely if ever see mangoes in the stores here and when I do they're very expensive - the idea of being able to have them all year long is only a dream to me!

If I could, I would grow pineapples. My mom used to grow them. I think they are so cool. You don't have to go out & buy seeds. All you have to do is go buy & eat one, then plant the top in some potting soil. About a year later you have your first pineapple. Cooll
