Herbs..small containers or planter boxes?

I am wanting to plant herbs this year and deciding which would be the best method. My husband and I have seen some ideas using pallets where they grew the herbs in them vertically. I am trying to keep it up off the ground due to the last two years, we had record rains here in Indiana, and the ground was flooded. Has anyone seen or heard of anyone using a pallet to grow their garden in? I have also considered using hanging baskets to grow them in as well.

That's a really interesting idea! What would you use to keep the soil inside?

I grow many things in containers. Herbs, peppers, flowers etc. Yes, hanging pots too. My ring of fire peppers have been grown in pots now for over 10 seasons with great success. Plus if you have a cold night, you can bring them into warmer area.
