Finally! I get to see the first roots forming from one of the slabs of horseradish.

Cut the roots into chunks and slabs two weeks ago, today. Saved the heart meat in the freezer.
Arranged the chunks and "skins" in a planter and covered with a little soil.

Its getting to be time to fill those planters!

I'm surrounded on all sides by amazing, wonderful food - this is China!
But horseradish is one of the flavors that has not caught on here and its Very hard to find.

A couple of my expat friends are on the list to receive some little plants when they are old enough to be shipped.
