I see people gardening to be healthy and be able to eat fresh produce. I see people wanting their yards to have wonderful plants and flowers. People are growing herbs for food purposes and for home remedies. Do you guys enjoy your gardening or do you just do it because you want the benefits? I personally love it. It is one of the most relaxing things to me and looking at the outcome just pleases me to no end. It's relaxing to me too. I could be ready to explode, but when I had my garden I'd be out there in the sun and dirt and it was like heaven.

You are the opposite of me. If my garden doesn't produce I have to spend a bunch of money I don't have to eat. And if I don't eat I can get a little bit stressed. So I guess the answer to your question is Yes & No.

For me, it's very relaxing. I love just looking at my plants, watch them grow and become beautiful. Taking care of them puts me in a good mood.
Lovely plants make this world a better place.

Gardening is indeed a hobby that is a stress reliever. If you love nature a garden is a place where you can spend your time with the trees, plants and flowering plants that you want to take care and to nurture in your own hands and this will give you a feeling of relaxation, fulfillment and happiness when you see and touch them and and seeing them growing day by day and this is one way of reducing your stress in your life..

I want my veggies to produce, my flowers to bloom and my weeds to be gone. But I no longer stress over any of it now, I go out and feel the love and joy in my garden, if I do get stressed out over some thing I pull weed and by the time I'm done pulling them out I feel better and my stress is gone.

I no longer have stress in my life--I have six vegetable gardens, an herb garden, and flower beds. If that doesn't relive stress, nothing will!
I find that sharing the vegetables and bouquets gives me such pleasure, and I can feel any "burden" slip away.
Fernsdaddy, pulling weeds is a great stress reliever, and has kept me from cursing many times! Taking agression out on bindweed is so darned therapeutic!:D

For me it is a stress reliever since I am focused on what I am doing at the moment and not worrying about other things in life. I like to grow flowers and watching them grow, then I take pictures of them. It gives me great joy.

My husband is a happy go lucky guy. Maybe that is the effect of his love for gardening. I notice that he stays in the garden for a longer time when he has a problem particularly with his job. He said that gardening relieves him of stress and gives him a refreshed feeling especially when there is a harvest of fruits of vegetables.

Gardening is a massive stress reliever for me. When I look out back and see my native plants growing and blooming, and insects and animals using them to survive, it makes me feel so much better, even when in a bad mood.

Nature has always been my number one way to relieve stress.

Have you noticed how quickly kids disappear when there is work to be done?

Mind, I almost never put my kids to work in the garden, that is more *MY* hobby, Even so, when I needed a break from "Mom" this and "Mom" that, I could go outside and wind down in the peace of my garden and they would vanish. So, YES it was stress relief! Birdsong, heat from the sun on my back, and I always put a few flowers in among the vegetables, simply for joy.

My younger child moved out last week, and so I am now an empty nester. I will likely not raise as much produce in my garden, as I will not need so much, but that just leaves room for more flowers.:giggle:

Back when I was actively gardening I was super relaxed. Totally stress-free :) I always thought that gardening helped e reach that zen state of mind. I dream of having a bigger space to work with, but maybe one day :)

I mostly have a vegetable and herb garden for the benefit of having fresh and delicious vegetable and herbs that are not bought a huge supercenter like Walmart. Having your own produce and herbs is a great way to save money. I was at Walmart the other day and one head of cabbage was $5! It blew me away. I also do it because I like to make thing grow and it is a fun hobby. I love being outdoors and being in my garden. It is indeed a huge stress reliever.

I totally agree that gardening is a stress reliever. It is very therapeutic to be tending to plants, either watering them, trimming them or simply pulling up weeds. Being in the garden keeps one close to nature and there is something about the outdoors that has the tendency to put one in a good mood. It could be the fresh air along with the sunlight. Also, being fully engrossed in garden work, helps to keep your mind off of other things that you may have been concerned about. So, gardening is a healthy activity.

It's one of the best therapies I can think of. Whenever I feel bad or I'm stressed, I always go to my garden and I suddenly start to feel better.

I can see how gardening can be associated with relieving stress. There is something so calming with the earth and plants. You really have to take care of these delicate plants like they are your children at times. You nurture them from the time they are seedlings, until they are full grown with their fruits. The garden never talks back to you or gives you a hard time. What you put in it is what you will get put of it if you take good care of the plants. Plus, you are providing yourself food! That's a stress reliever right there alone.
