I have some friends who swear by the 'Pinterest Popular' vinegar/Dawn dish soap recipe. Not even sure if it works, but they are natural gurus that like to avoid chemicals at all cost.... which probably means that even if it wasn't working AS WELL as regular weed killer, they would still talk it up!

We have a dog and we're looking for a weed killer that didn't use harsh chemicals. We used the dish soap, salt and white vinegar mixture. You need to apply it when you know it will be sunny for a few days. We filled a spray bottle with the mixture, put the nozzle on stream and sprayed the weeds in our walkway and patio. I do know that it will also kill any other plant it hits, so stay away from good plants. We had to spray once a month as the rain will carry the weed killer away and weeds are tenacious.

Weeds near my flowers I pull them out by hand, root and all, after a rainy day when the ground is soft.

Vinegar does so many miracles! I just used baking soda and vinegar to unclog my sink just the other day. I have never heard of using vinegar on plants before, so all of these posts are pretty astounding to me. However, a friend of mine once suggested mixing dish soap with water and spraying that on the weeds. I started doing just as he instructed and I have only killed weeds with it and my other plants seem to be fine.

I have chickens so I really worry about chemicals to kill my weeds so I sprayed white vinegar on some weeds and it killed them. It took many days of spraying them but they did finally die. I find it a lot easier to just pull them though.

I have also used the vinegar to kill weeds, it worked for a short time and then the weeds were back. I used the vinegar on the driveway cracks. I didn't want the mix to kill my other plants. You must be careful when using the vinegar mix.

I still say the best thing to do with weeds is to just pull them and put them into your compost bin. That way you put them to use for you , and it makes an organic green fertilizer. They can add valuable nutrients to the soil, so it's worth the effort.
