Seriously, that sort of thing is something of a "lost art" this side of the pond. I'm in one of the oldest cities in the U.S. and there just aren't enough folk around with the skills for proper restoration and preservation.

We've got a lot of that too, very strict rules about listed buildings, backed up with unlimited fines and or a year in prison
