The Blue John mine isn't too far from here - it's in a place called Castleton in Derbyshire. Hoping to go there later this year :) I loves a bit of geology I do! :D

Me too :) My ex told her girly friends that i'm a Geologist, they all thought she mean Gynacologist :rolleyes:

I heard they ripped out a lot of the Blue John during the war for the steel smelting :(

Yup, unfortunately so :( I don't think they mine large specimens any more, just small ones for things like jewellery.

Nice one, I've only seen black and white pics of it in my caves and caverns of the peak district book from the 50's :)

Castleton is in my book of favourite places & the Bluejohn Mines are well worth a visit as are speedwell & peak cavern & if you do all that and still want more there is a castle:) with a view as long as you don't mind the climb .......If not grab a Beer at the pub;)

Zigs, how do you match the colors? When I had a business restoring antique furniture, and had to replace a stile or any other piece, getting the color right was the hardest part.
You must have a very good eye for color, not to mention the texture--all those ripples and waves must be hard to reproduce.
