@Chuck should he throw all his excitement in a pile and compost it so he does not poison anybody? He is in Atlanta and due to humidity the pH tends low.
Of course not. There are countless gardeners who have acidic soils. The reason he needs to know his Ph is so he does not make matters worse by using things that make his soil more acidic such as that peat moss he has. He should also know his Ph so he has an idea of how much of those other amendments he has on hand to use. And I must be missing something because what does humidity have to do with acidic soils? If humidity was a factor in acidic soils my soil should be at least slightly acidic but it ranges from 7.8 to 8.1 and humidity is often off the charts.

Enough rain water washes away liming agents not just calcium increasing acidity. But it has to do with basic materials too. Here we have to use dolomitic lime because rain leaches magnesium too. Atlanta is 2.5 hours due east of us. Practically the same soil. In this case humidity really refers to rain, but the soil profile language always says humidity. Here we had 48 inches last year but it often comes in a tremendous downpour and leaves heavy saturation.

This is a pretty good UGA link:

Georgia is roughly the 7th wettest state. LA, MS, AL are just ahead of it. Hawaii is 1.

I'm stealing this link. I really like links. I bet you got lots of links. I do.

Check this out guys! They're doing okay. I wanted to point out the perfection of the space in this closet. I just found these boxes in our box pile. They fit my germinating closet perfectly though.

I did some experiments where I laid the tomato seedling down horizontally, instead of planting it deep I planted it shallower but then laid it down and covered the horizontal stem with dirt. I'll see what happens.
