@claudine I know that cactus plants are resilient when it comes to not needing water frequently, but I had no idea they would die from over-watering. If it died overtime then maybe it was the pot size, but if it just took a day or two to wither and go south then it may have been something more dramatic that shocked the plant. Either way, we live and we learn so try to get another nice one and treat it extra special.
I remember I was watering my cacti almost every day, because I had no idea that they don't need so much water. They became very soft and started rotting:(

Dear Kimmy, the problem with the "cheap" little cacti at grocery stores and other random places is that very cheap pots/stones/soil is used and because they are so spikey they are hard to handle and check their root health. If you do decide to buy a cheap plant look for smaller ones that you can still feed or a fuller/larger one that you can repot once you get it home. Good Luck!
