Don't worry they will grow back like gang busters next year! Just remember not to cut them down. Tie a ribbon or something on them to remind yourself.
We planted blueberry/raspberry and blackberry bushes/canes a few years ago along with two grape vines. Deers got the blueberries and the canes just died on us. I chalk it up to the fact that hubby was not that interested in planting them and I was too pregnant with the twins to be much physical help and plant them myself. Blackberries are full of memories for me. I loved going to go pick wild blackberries with my mama when I was little.
