I love sweet basil and Thai basil. I use it to marinate all my meat and chicken dishes. At the end of summer, I dried up the leaves and crumbled them for seasoning during the year. I also use fresh basil for topping on the soup. It is one of my favorite herbs!

I had sampled the basil for the first time. We had an omelet and we included basil for flavoring. Not bad... actually it's good because the omelet seemed to have a spike. The flavor of the ham is enhanced and the egg is more delicious. Maybe we can use basil in some other dishes that we would cook. Here are the ingredients of the omelet - that's ham, cheese, basil, and eggs...

Trellium, basil grows very easily from seed--cuttings are more difficult.
For a nice snack, or even as an appetizer with cherry tomatoes, spread softened cream cheese on a large basil leaf and roll it up like a cigar.
Basil also freezes well--just chop it fine, put enough water in the chopped basil to make a paste, and freeze in tablespoon size balls. Freezing holds the fresh basil taste well.

Thanks to those who posted about basil. We really at a loss of what to do with our basil especially so that it is fast growing and had developed many stems. After that omelet, I also mixed chopped basil leaves in the sardines that was our lunch the other day. The flavor of the basil is not very strong but the scent adds flavor somehow.

I haven't grown basil in years but it grows relatively easy. I didn't even have to dry and crush the basil because when I grew it, I would rinse it off and put it in ziplock bags. After I put it in the bags I would put it in the freezer. Because it would freeze hard, the basil would automatically break into small pieces.
