I can tell you my latest experience with basil. I usually start mine from seeds in the garden. But, I decided to start it indoors with my tomatoes, peppers, etc. I planted a week ago. Last weekend we had 15 year record low temperatures. Sigh. Got down to around 38. I thought my tomatoes would all be gone. But, they did OK, got stunted a little, but recovering nicely. The basil, on the other hand, is all dead and gone. I will wait a week or so and start over from seed.
