Hopefully it is cast iron like you said Chuck. If they are really lucky the pipe joint is hammered lead. I still would recommend a visual inspection of the pipes prior to any work. Starting a repair job without knowing exactly the problem is not logical.

Good advice generally, and I am especially appreciative because I have been on sewer lines so long I never even considered a septic system. I look forward to finding out how all this s**t flows.
