Anyone have a recipe for making liquid fertilizer from stock chemicals like potassium nitrate?

Interesting...growing veggies is quite different. For example, potatoes...no way I would see nitrogen being that high...you would grow all tops and no spuds. Many other examples.

Potted plants I would start with a good potting mix, then by the time they had used the nutrients they would probably need re-potting anyway.
For the general garden I would probably just sprinkle a little into my compost heap every so often.
But then I am a simple soul.

Make your own Potassium Nitrate, mix 1 gallon of urine with, 1 gallon of wood ash plus 1 gallon dry dead organic material like straw. Keep it in a closed container at 75° in about 5 days it will have a very strong ammonia smell. Keep container closed for 2 more weeks then you will have a very high nitrogen fertilizer.

In my case at least I don't need to make KNO3, I have an ample amount already.

But I have to say, saving up a gallon of urine sounds like a great tip for the thrifty gardener.
