What kind of a bird is that exactly?

Hummingbird, I think! The one with iridescent coat and hovers feverishly in the air taking nectar from plants.

I was making a batch of mashed potatoes when I looked outside and saw this Pileated Woodpecker digging into one of the logs I have standing in my yard. Notice the dirt on the plants adjacent to him (in the bottom picture), from him digging into the base of the log, where it enters the ground.

At one time I saw him pick out a pinky-sized grub. Unfortunately, I was not able to get better pics since it was raining and I was at a critical time in my cooking operation.

Simply stunning. Looks like your bird is a handful! Hehe! Quite aggressive looking, but how unforgettable!
