A recent conversation with a friend, has lead me to research this subject more closely, after hearing that she was now declining any offers of fresh herbs or vegetables from her neighbor, because she didn't like his fertilization methods.
Before going any further, I will just say that, this friend has had a very plentiful supply of organically grown herbs and vegetables over the past four years, and is, as far as I can see, none the worse for it.
My research has revealed that for centuries, human urine has, apparently been regarded as one of the best liquid fertilizers and compost accelerators around and is widely used in the organic gardening community, mainly because, it is nitrogen rich, has moderate levels of phosphorus, is low in potassium, sterile and of course free.
They do however, give a tip on collecting this liquid gold, and that is, that anyone taking prescription or illicit drugs, should for obvious reasons, not be considered as a donor.
With this I also read, that when combined with the minerals contained in wood ash (which I think has been mentioned on this forum before) it produces an excellent all round, well balanced fertilizer that is suitable for all your garden plants.
I have a very vivid and active imagination and couldn't possibly put into words, the pictures that my mind is currently conjuring up, on how these methods are applied, and whether or not it has now become compulsory for organic growers to have all their employees tested for drugs!!
What positive or negative thoughts do you have, on this natural way of fertilizing your plants.?
