Hi,
I recently purchased a yucca from Home Depot; I don’t know the exact species. I replanted it right away because the pot couldn’t support the top heavy plant. I’m new to this and unfortunately I did not research the proper soil and etc and bought organic soil at Home Depot. I’ve noticed that some leaves have weathered and died. Many tips have browned. The tree attracts tiny fruit like flies. Some leaves have white fuzz that I thought was dust and have wiped down but now it’s returned. Is it possible my tree has a fungal infection or parasites? Did I damage it by using the wrong soil? I realize I might be overwatering so I bought a special meter to help me read the soil to know precisely when to water. I know these trees prefer dry soil. Please help if you can? Should I replant it using different soil? Different irrigation? Thanks!

Greetings, welcome to the Forums.

This Yucca elephantipes will need well-drained conditions. Wait until the soil surface looks dry before watering again. Use your eyes and and fingers to test moisture, not a water meter. If that container does not drain correctly, you must re-pot into a container that drains. You may use a saucer under the container, but the plant pot should not be sitting in a puddle. Either elevate the pot in the saucer or drain the saucer. Yucca elephantipes will grow best in full sun, but it can do fine in part sun or bright, indirect light. Fertilize your plant occasionally with a complete fertilizer.
