I'm curious about what all you do to get for/in the winter in terms of your gardens? It seems like it could be a significant challenge in some climates. Is Winter mainly a time where you back off from your gardening, or do you take a lot of it indoors? Or something else altogether?

Winters in my country can be harsh, so I spend most of the time indoors. What is even worse, I have to put all my miniature roses in the attic. It's awful not to have any plants around:(
This year, I plan to start growing something new. I'm looking for an indoor plant that blooms during colder months.

It all depends on where you live

I'm in northern Maryland, myself, so we definitely do have harsh winters some of the time. But I was somewhat curious about what people do across a variety of climates =)

Oh that is a shame :(, I know what you mean, it's so much nicer to have an environment that includes plants and life. That sounds like a nice idea, I'm wondering about some plants like that myself, as I'd like to start gardening sooner rather than later but we are getting into the colder weather now where I live.

I am in South central Texas and we have (supposedly) a 365 day growing season. I usually skip a summer garden because it is too hot and dry.

Exactly! I hate snow, sometimes I dream about moving to a place where plants grow all year round. Does it get very cold there were you live?
Yesterday, it was 16 degree Celsius in my city, so I spent most of the day outside:)

To be honest I don't ever really take a break from gardening - as even though I live in an area where we only have the two climate extremes - either extremely hot or extremely cold with nothing in between - there is always something going on or something needing to be done in my garden 365 days of the year.

So although you'll generally find me in the garden most days of the year - I do have to confess that when the temperatures are way above 45 C or well below - 12 C - I do tend to do a little less than normal :D

45 C = cool adult beverage under a shade tree
-12 C = hot toddy in front of the fire

In the Pacific Northwest we typically have pretty mild winters with only a couple of major snowstorms. There are lots of plants around here that can endure the cold and flourish in the end. I am hoping we do not have a bad winter this year. This week has been in the low 40s which is cold for this time of year. They are calling for snow mixed with rain tomorrow as a matter of fact. I usually bring my flower pots inside the house and they fair well.

Speaking of catalogs, did you get your Indigo tomato seeds?

Not as yet - but will be ordering some in the early part of next year - so that I can get them started in time for when the planting season begins - really excited too :D
As at last - I'm actually going to get to grow some Indigo Rose tomatoes next year
