I have bought numerous nerine bowdeniis. But they never flower for me? Last year this time, I said to myself that they would flower next year. 2017 has come and nearly 2/3 gone, no nerine flowers in sight!

Help please. Thank you in advance.

Here they need to be planted on a south facing bed with the top half of the bulb out of the ground. The bulb needs to ripen in the sun to initiate flowering for the following season.

Love Nerines, but sadly we can only grow them in pots. We are too cold for them otherwise. If you can get it, look out for N.filifolium, a delicate dwarf type.

Well, I must say my first encounter with Nerine was a walk into one of the side roads and it was baking hot, must be 32c and suddenly, I saw this whole line of pink flowers coming out of half buried bulbs - they were like some ballerinas. This has borne out what you say about half-buried bulbs. I said to myself. I must have some of these as there were tons of flowers and concrete on both sides of this line of plants. They were literally being cooked in between the road and the paved front garden. I reckoned if they were that happy in the "baking tray", they would surely do well in my garden. But no, for the last two years, I have been waiting and waiting and waiting, and my heart bleeds whenever I see them dancing beautifully outside some houses. Ah, I know what to do. I might move some of them to the kerb next to the pavement. The trouble is that alstroemerias and irises have already staked their claims... But worth a try..

Yep, bulbs half out of the soil and full sun alp. They often need at least a second year before they flower too.
Anything new to plant or new to you alp should be researched as to their requirements :)

At 7pm, I was on my way to the shop and in the dusk, I saw something pink sticking out of a stem out to the busy pavement and road:eek:o_O. I suddenly realised it was a bud of a nerine!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Finally, I will have some flowers; hopefully, tomorrow... :p

@Vishu1708 Lunch time and I have just snapped the bud

I am hardly the person to ask. This one is at the sunniest spot and next to main road, west facing, and baked by exhaust fumes and the setting sun. Also the sun is on it the whole day. Very dry and baking hot. Read the advice given by others and check all their temperature requirements.

No, it still won't flower this year as some idiot has cut off the bud. A neat cut... So now I have dug them up and put them somewhere at the back of my garden.:cry::cry:

:eek::mad::mad::mad: Oh my god!!! Thats so infuriating!!!
Why would any decent person do that!!!
I once had one of my prized carnation stolen like that..... since that day, i have made a point to keep my more precious plants away from the property's perimeter.....

Whoever doing that was stupid as he/she cut right next to the flower and I have a long stem left. Very annoyed. Just when I thought I was going to have a lovely nerine in bloom. Pop went the flower and these people live near me.
