Hi all, I'm trying to determine what roses to add to my rose garden. It's partially shaded and currently has a small pink bush (as in both small in bush and flower) and a miniature knock out red "tree" bush. I'm looking for other colors to fill in the blanks, namely a yellow, a white, an orange, and maybe a purpley blue? Are there other colors I don't know about? I like fades into other colors, but not really the stripey ones. I also prefer a classic rose shape, leaning away from moss roses or cabbage roses with many layered petals like peonies, if that makes sense? I also already have those miniature roses, so different shapes would be a nice contrast (I think). I also would like fragrance if possible. Here's what I've found locally so far:

Aldis:
  • Hybrid tea Blue Girl (not my favorite petal shape but seems to be a neat color)
  • Large-flower climber New Year (Orange, slight fragrance, unsure if I like it but good shape)
  • Climber Perfume Breeze (White, strong fragrance, can't see the flower so great from the ad)
  • Hybrid tea Beautiful Day (Peach, moderate fragrance)
  • Arizona (light-strong fragrance, pictures show way too many colors so I have no idea what's up with this one)
Lowes:
  • Hybrid tea Midas Touch (Yellow, moderate fragrance)
  • Floribunda SunSprite (yellow, strong fragrance, and the package says "grow three together? Unsure if it means there's three roots or what.)
  • New Day (Yellow, seems to be multi-petaled so I like it less the above options, but it's extremely fragrant)
  • Iceberg (white with strong fragrance)
  • Floribunda True Sincerity (Orange-to-scarlet fade, super pretty but mild scent)
Local nursery:
  • Peace (No further details, thanks guys - yellow to pink petals and fragrant)
  • Orange Glow knock-out (No further info)
I've also learned I need to learn the difference between rose types, haha! Anyway, any input is appreciated!

Hello friend. For the Akron, Ohio area, Knock Out roses and shrub roses are generally considered the easiest to grow, due to their disease resistance, vigorous growth, and heavy blooming. I would have a soil test done on any garden area before planting to ensure the best match.

I would be sure and match the soil pH with roses in question. Knock Outs do best in a slightly acidic soil 5.5 to 6.5 where Floribunda True Sincerity do best in 6.5 to 7. pH. All roses need at least a very minimum of 6 hrs of full Sun. Good luck and keep us posted on how it turns out.

I’m definitely going to have to run many acidic soil tests with how much I’m interested by; any recommendations for tests?
