I need to replace blight plagued boxwoods. I'm looking at Japanese Holly, but I'm not quite sure which variant would be right for the space. Ideally, I would like to make a hedge about 4-5 ft tall and 2-3 ft wide. And, I would prefer a variant that grows on the medium to faster side, if possible, but not a deal breaker. Zone 6b/7a. Lots of deer.

Thanks!

I would go for Ilex crenata 'golden gem'. It will grow to about 5 ft, and is gold/green variegated, and brings a bit of light to winter months. It will bush out about 5 ft too, so would form a nice strong, easily clipped hedge. Good choice if I may say so. Lovely little shrub!!
