when will butternut squash plants give female flowers?

All cucurbitaceae (except all-female and parthenocarpic varieties, which are down to human breeding) produce male flowers first; this is nature's way of trying to ensure cross-pollination with a different plant, and is not just normal, it's universal.
Just wait, there'll be female flowers, and enough males to pollinate, in a little while.
