From ever since I've being trying my luck at growing sweet potatoes but my problem is i just don't know when they're ready to be reaped; when i do dug them they are like rotten. How do you know when it's time to reap, what are the signs?

Depending on the variety of potato harvest is around 100- 125 days from when the plant was set out. Also the leaves will start turning yellow but you can dig around the base of the plant and harvest them anytime

Oh Oh, I had no idea it was such a short time span for reaping, after planting the potatoes; I always dug them like five to six months after planting so they always rut. I will keep in mind the color changing of the leaves also. Thanks a lot for this information.(y)

If you started them from seed then the number of days until harvest is on the seed package. If you bought plants check with who you bought them from or check out the variety on line and you can learn how long to harvest. As Chuck mentioned its 100 - 125 days to harvest.

I experimented with those little red new potatoes recently and since I had success, I want to try sweet potatoes. I recently read that the leaves of the sweet potato vine are also edible, which makes the idea of adding the plant to my garden even more appealing. Not sure when I'll get to it though.

I wish you luck in planting your sweet potatoes and i did read somewhere on this forum that the leaves of this plant is edible.. i researched it and it seems very much factual...the leaves can be used to make a stew...even though i haven't given it a try as yet.

Thanks! As I mentioned, I read that recently as well and have been looking into it. Coincidentally, I was out the other evening and someone else brought it up. She said the leaves are quite tasty! I'm just not sure if this is a good time of year to start off the plant or how long it takes to grow. Also, we're nearing that time of year where it's going to start to be less sunny out.
