Hello!

I planted grass 3 weeks ago (zone 5) around mid October. I know this was a bit late.

I’ve had grass come up to about 2” now, albeit very patchy. I’m thinking the areas that did not sprout have gone dormant. It hit 28 degrees here last night.

Should I keep watering the entire lawn until winter? Or can I stop even though there are some bare areas?

If I should continue to water how much and until when?

It’s going to be 50s and 60s after one more cold snap tonight, thinking I should water to get a bit more growth?

Anticipating aerating and over seeding come spring.

Thanks!

I would water it to keep it damp but not soaking for a couple more weeks. Some of the seed you planted may have been eaten by rodents or birds. Not every grass seed will be viable. The saying goes something like: One for the rook
One for the crow
One will wither
One will grow.

Next spring you have a new chance to grow grass seed again.
