Lycopersicon lycopersicum is what takes me out. Of course from the pictures I have seen of people in Belgium they are only a few inches tall so it makes sense to call them giant...
Lycopersicon (from Greek λύκοπερσικων meaning "wolf peach" was a pretty cool history of a name. "Wild Tomato" is the gist of it from what I gather, some are poisonous. "Love Apple"is a legit older name for tomato that cracks me up. lycopersicum is "wolf persian" by one view and "wolf apricot" by another,or even "wolf peach" by a third viewpoint. But if the name points to persia (iran) then the old aztec name "tomatl" is really interesting in the context, some saying it was influenced by the popular name of potato.
