What's going on with my lilacs?

The leaves on my lilac bush are turning black. From what I can tell it seems to be mostly on the new young branches that are just coming out. It's been raining for over a week with very little dry weather in between, but the older branches don't have the same problem. Yet.

Great! Just read the link you provided and I have a problem. It says to not water from above. The problem I have is that they're up against our enclosed deck and the water runs off the roof onto the lilacs. I guess I'll have to add some sort of gutter to run the rain water off to one side. Thanks for the info.
