My wife and I are new gardeners, and we picked this and another just like it out of the garden this morning. We don't know what variety it is, as the label is missing. We also weren't sure if we'd left them on the vine too long. They stopped growing in length a few days ago, and started expanding in diameter. We were afraid they'd be overripe, so we picked them. Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide.

It could be any one of a number of pickling cucumbers, which are the most popular for home gardeners. It is probably a little bigger than you want to pick, but check the seeds inside. If they are large and woody, the cucumber is past prime eating size.

Thank you so much. We really appreciate it.

Most are vining. Bush cucumbers tend to be too small and expensive for commercial use.
