What type of Grubs are these?

i found around 30 of these in damp
clay soil around a fern type plant. Are they harmful? I cut them all in half.

Could be leather jackets, ie crane fly larvae. They can be harmful to grass and other small plants, so depending on how bad it is you might want to look into treating it. Nematodes can work well (y)
